This is a masterfully done police procedural, with some spy thriller mixed in. You are privy to every thought and insight by the investigator protagonist, who is very good at her job. The story is never predictable, with the plot having many unexpected twists. There is a great deal of detail, which can occasionally get tedious, but enhances the verisimilitude. The reader feels like they are watching a movie unfold. And some of the detail can be fascinating, particularly when it involves a military setting unfamiliar to most of us.
