Loved this trilogy of books, It is great to a story completely different from the usual old police murder investigation or soppy romance stuff that is over done and an old concept and so boring to me. These books are original, exciting to read and keep you gripped , waiting to see what is going to happen next. The author has taken the urban legend idea, where every town has that scary house where the town, and the story grows, kids come up with stories of ghosts, spooks, witches ,or monsters for the property, spreading fear and caution between the children and parents use the stories to scare their children and to keep them away from the house and it's inhabitants, but does this add to the draw aand attract the kids to the place, especially at times like Halloween? Over time no-one remembers how the stories start and IF they were ever true, but any poor inhabitant can become the stuff of urban legend....but is This house and i'ts scary inhabitant for real or an urban myth..... The old lady living there is different, old and cranky, the children have tormented her and teased her through time, and she is often seen , avoided and feared when she sweeps the path outside her house, for fear of her shouting at them being chased and beaten or whacked with her path sweeping broom, But does that make her dangerous, vicious and full of evil black magic, or is she just a cranky old lady?? Why has She developed a bad reputation and why is she feared by the whole town. I love how the first book tells the story, but the 2nd and 3rd book looks into the woman's history and past to see why she is feared so much and more about her family history and links to the generations to many of the towns families and inhabitants. I love the twists and links. The books have lots of character, scares, twists and turns, but also a twinkle of humour. Nothing and nobody in the story is as they first seem. Written in a modern way. The first story is a stand alone story but the other two books in the trilogy are also a "must read" to fully understand the background and to give you added understanding of the main characters and the links. I have had the books on audio form, so that i can listen to them because i struggle with insomnia, settling to read a book and fading eyesight, but really enjoyed the story and am going through the books for a second time, as i was so hooked on the stories the first time. The narrator is really good with a clear, but easy and casual way of helping to bring the story to life. Her tone and reading is drawing and inclusive , but also comfortable to listen to. The author and narrator together have a great way of including you into the lives and plot of the story and make it really easy to visualise the situations as if you are actually there. Thank you to the author and also the Narrator for a great adventure and interesting story, That is so different from the same old -same old plots and themes that are so common in modern fiction. Also to the Author for the easy but entertaining understanding of the plots and characters. It is definitely a trilogy that i will continue to return through from time to time to revisit Hagatha Ketchel, her kin and town's folk. Loved knowing more about Hagatha's life, difficult early years, and how she ended up being judged and feared so much. This book gives you a more balanced view, understanding and respect for this lady
