Don't know what the real perfume smells like so can't compare. Nice smelling perfume at a good price but it leaves a sticky sheen on the skin.

A WONDERFUL EXAMPLE OF AN IRIS PERFUME

I haven't smelled the original. So I can't compare it with PP's. All I can write is that I've been wearing this wonderful spring/summer scent for the past few days. It's a gentle, soft, powdery, unique scent. Does it smell of iris? Iris blossoms don't give off a floral scent. It's the roots of the bearded iris that produce an essential oil that is described as giving off a pleasant, woody, powdery, slightly sweet, floral, violet scent. There can also be a hint of spice, of earthiness, green leaves, grass or hay. The essential oil is so expensive due to the 6 year long process to prepare the roots and finally extract the oil, that many iris perfumes are made nowadays with synthetic oil. Another name for iris is orris. So you'll often see orris root as a note in floral perfumes. But calling a scent an iris perfume sounds much better than calling it an orris root perfume. The oil version that I bought is a well blended scent that begins with a burst of fresh orange that fades very quickly, then develops into the main orris root scent. My nose doesn't sense the incense or cedar that are supposed to be in the base notes. But it's such a lovely scent that I'm not complaining. However, I wish it had a little more projection and longevity. I've read that the original also had this problem. PP's spray extract version may be better for anyone wanting more projection and longevity.
