Unfortunately, Lonely Planet guidebooks are becoming less useful every day

While some information is still relevant—especially for pre-travel planning—the overall quality and depth of content are declining. There are too many pictures and too little practical detail about sites and destinations, which is quite the opposite of the old, indispensable Lonely Planet guides that travelers used to rely on. I especially miss the detailed black-and-white maps, which used to be incredibly informative and are sadly absent now.

Excellent Guide for Planning a Japan Trip

This book has been incredibly helpful for planning my trip to Japan. The information is clear, well-organised, and easy to follow, with great recommendations for food, transport, and must-see sights. I especially appreciate the detailed neighbourhood guides and practical tips for getting around — it makes navigating Japan feel much less overwhelming. A really solid companion for any traveller.

Very happy with new Japan guide! Having visited Japan before I wanted to go to less visited locations beyond the (still wonderful) Tokyo Osaka Kyoto trail. The guide delivered directing me to the south tip of Japan Kagoshima and beyond coasts food and hiking were epic I look forward to visiting next year
