At my age, I could easily identify with the main character's confusion, frustration and defiance over the decay of patriotism. The movie presents the nuances of fatherless homes, conformity under the threat of losing employment, Veteran's challenges with PTSD, bigotry, hypocrisy, and misunderstandings between neighbors.
Ultimately, I walked away with reflecting on staying true to one's own beliefs, your purpose, loving your country (warts and all) and what it may cost you in the end. Given the heavenly inference at the end, I was glad to see a reference that reminds us this world is not our home.
