The foam is more contoured and distributed where it needs to be. The outside is also smooth unlike cloth pads that feel quite rough on the face. The foam is also pretty dense which means your elbows won’t feel like pillows. I feel like the main benefit of these is that it spreads the impact of your elbows strikes over a larger surface area which is the most important thing for elbow pads. You definitely still need to throw your strikes with good control but now you can touch people with your elbows without spilling blood or losing friends.
