This is a direct fit replacement for the ribbed plastic inner tailgate panel. I used truck bed paint to match the black color of the old panel and added weather-stripping under the door panel to minimize water intrusion. Neither are necessary, though. I believe these panels initially required you to drill holes for the hinge screws, but the one I received was nicely flat and required no drilling. Very happy :-).
