Nice unit. My old onkyo from 10 years previous was on the Fritz. However, with the new one, I have to buy all new cables because the updated HDMI standard won't even connect unless it can handshake at the maximum bandwidth/througput rates. Even though I won't be using 8k 120Hz, I have to have cables that will handle that data rate, or this receiver won't even connect. I have a 50' run of one HDMI cable. Buying a new 50' ultra high bandwidth HDMI cable is kind of expensive, kind of a hassle to install, and kind of a hassle to figure out the right specs and right hardware. So this is not a drop-in replacement for an older unit. Expect you might have to spend a bunch of time redesigning your whole system.

It works great, it does an amazing job converting stereo content into Dolby surround, The app okay and first time set up is very confusing and has bugs. I plugged it into ethernet and Dirac room correction demands you be connected to WiFi? Once you get done with that pain it is defiantly is worth the money. The room correction is awesome and makes your speakers sound impossibly good. The phono input is fine, but requires you to turn the volume up 20% higher than normal. The first 3HDMI inputs can do 8k Enhanced while the rest cap out at 8k Standard. This prevents more than 8k 30hz or 4k 120hz on the 8k Standard inputs. TheRz30 doesn't add any noticeable latency during gaming. I have this connected to a Sony tv and it works fine. The tv will need to be restarted occasionally because it stops sending audio to the tv so I think it is a Sony problem.

Sounds really good. Just as powerful as my 140 W Pioneer Elite, I like the settings on the new Onkyo a lot better.
