What a great combination, author PETER TUFFREY, publisher GREAT NORTHERN books and exceptional pictures from Bill Read plus others who were they ? from Rail Photoprints and Colour Rail. The full page pictures in colour allow one to drift back to the ( for me ) days of my youth , bunking various sheds or waiting for the next branch trip , times when it was travel or buy slide film but not always both . So again thank you ; PT ' and 'GN ' for another wonderful selection, for me in far off NEW ZEALAND I eagerly await the arrival of your work , I am never disappointed . Finally a thank you to the good people at STRATHWOOD , I know when I order you have the stock .

Excellent book!

Geographically comprehensive cover of the area

I enjoyed reading this book and it includes photographs right across the area. My only doubt is the structure of the book which is from A-Z rather than by pre-grouping company or county. Most pictures have adequate captions or I knew the area but some did not so I couldn't work out where the location was without resorting to the internet. It was good to have a significant number of colour photographs as not everyone could afford colour film and developing costs at the time.
