Review of 3DP Trains’ SP 28' Boxcar:
A generally excellent representation of an SPNG 28’ box car. The provision of freestanding semi-scale grab irons and truss rods must be acknowledged to be a new high in 3D-printed modeling, despite my own preference for scale wire grabs and nylon truss rods as provided in the former Grandt kits. I am naturally skeptical of their long term survival in ordinary handling, but so far none have broken. I find no severe defects. There is some partial loss of detail on the lower ends and edge of the sides, where the surface seems to have not initially set. This may not show after painting. The KC combined brake gear remains unacceptably simplified, and without any provision for the cylinder rod passing through the needle beam, but this shall be replaced with Grandt details. Neither car end makes any provision for the hand brake rod, so to and bottom hardware will need to be added. I very much like the introduction of a substantial internal reinforcing ledge on the sides above the floor line, and provision of 6 retaining screw holes – this should prevent the bowing out of the car sides observed in some previous purchases. SP 28' Boxcar
Item is well crafted and the model we have needed to supplement our fleet of freight cars. It is a narrow gauge SP boxcar.
