Not what I was expecting.
I bought it to try and inject some enthusiasm and technique into my drawings. I am now retired but before starting my working life, I studied coastal and river engineering at university. So, after almost 40yrs working with and studying waves, sediment movement, beaches and coastal defences, I was considered an expert within this field. Therefore I was particularly interested to learn how to use coloured pencils to depict this fascinating area. But I was disappointed. Maybe my expectations were too high; tainted by my experience of working with the real thing.

Draw landscapes in coloured pencil
I thought it was excellent. I've had the book since it first came out, a few years ago, but as a raw beginner, I glanced at it and put it in the bookcase Since getting the quick start guide I've started "Sitting in the evening sun" (Lake.sunset, mountains, reflections and boats.) I'm halfway through and I'm very pleased with it but it's still not good enough to put on my wall.

Draw landscapes quick review
It was interesting applying someone else’s style as I try to develop my own. So far I have only done the fields of color. The instructions were very clear and precise and I had no problem following them. I used the line drawing to get me started. The reference photo was very useful for getting my colors right. I applied other techniques I have learned over the past couple of years to achieve the results I wanted. It is a nice addition to my library. My printer will not handle the paper I use for drawing so I did not use the print ready version.
