Shirring Elastic

Manufacturers claim that their socks have no elastic - perhaps they have given shirring elastic a new name? most socks have it - it is always far too tight for me and I very often end up cutting the top band off, thereby ruining the socks. However, I have fortunately found a make of Wide Fit Diabetic socks - they are wonderful and I highly recommend them. But the onesck socks were useless.
