This safe really won't fit a full size gun with an optic and light except maybe in some limited circumstances. I have 2 full size 1911 style guns with Holosun 507 Comp optics (a little larger than some other options), one with a light and the other without. One is a double stack and the other single stack. Neither comes close to fitting, which I was counting on. Also, some guns with a flared mag well won't fit due to width. I assume to accommodate lights and optics, there is no longer a separate slot for a separate magazine. My compact gun (Sig P365 Xmacro) fits fine with both light and optic. Also, be aware that to mount the plate to furniture, rather large holes need to be drilled (7/32, almost a quarter of an inch!, is in the instructions) and the included screws are about 1 1/2 inches long. I think that would interfere with the drawers sliding in and out of most nightstands in addition to the fact that not many pieces of furniture are built with sides that are that thick and solid. There is an option to mount the plate on the bottom, but again, it would take something pretty thick and solid (1 1/2 inches at least) to even stand a chance of being solid side to side.
The sliding part seems to work well and quickly. I have not yet set up the fingerprints, etc., as I hesitated for a couple of days before trying to mount the plate. So, I don't yet know how quickly the safe opens using biometric, keypad or Nano options. I bought a second plate so I could move the safe to a couple locations as I wanted, but will likely not do that now due to the above issues and because it is not very easy to do. As noted, the safe itself is heavy and you need to release a latch inside (manual) that requires holding it with one hand while lifting with the other. To get the safe back onto the plate also can require releasing the latch if you can't push pretty hard on the safe to get the
plate tabs to push in the release. It also requires being plugged in constantly and a relatively short cord is provided, although I'm sure longer cords would work (USB standard to USB C) if purchased separately. I didn't really care about any of the internet/connectivity features but wanted the NanoKey option and that's the only way to do it. Be aware that if the internet goes out, the NanoKey option to open the safe won't work.
If the NanoKey is faster and more sure than the other biometric safes I have (slight delays and occasional failures using fingerprints), I will still be satisfied overall, but decided to write this while thinking about it. FYI, there are no written instructions for the keypad or fingerprint options, only downloading and using the app. I'm sure it won't be hard to figure out, but definitely more steps and work than with my other safes to get it set up. Batteries are used as a backup to the plug-in power and there is a way to check the charge on the batteries, which I appreciate, but will also likely forget how to do that (in the written instructions provided but I already forgot after reading them), as there are several functions that require keypad combinations (i.e., pushing buttons 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 at the same time vs. just one number for others). Hope these details help.
