Edge guard tape

I did not read the instructions and put down only one layer of tape to my paddle. There are 3 strips of tape in the package. . The taped edge ripped by striking the ground (one side on outdoor court, the other indoors) on both edges, thereby exposing the paddle edge. I added electric tape on top of those areas and will see if that offers better protection. I think the tape could be tougher, and/or thicker for better protection.
