clearer embroidery instructions

I am frustrated....the instructions say just to whip stitch the books on to the fabric and I cannot get a close enough look at the completed photo to see but it looks like the books have been done in a running whip stitch. Please clarify

I had to have the new block of the month, My Happy Place. Books and plants both give me joy. I know the finished quilt will make me smile.
