The fine print on the label explains it all, after the product is=delivered! This is an iron gall ink which makes it water proof. It also acquires it's color through oxidation. The ink is pale watery blue straight out of the bottle does not look like the dark ink I expected. It turns dark on exposure dependent on the amount of ink applied.
