As devotee of Charles Munch, I am excited by all the HDTT remasterings of his Boston Symphony recordings. This one was no exception, and infact was new to me, so no comparison to previous available versions on vinyl or CD. But so very glad to have this exciting and vivid performance that has had many enthusiastic reviews over the years as one of the great interpretations of the Brahms and as an especially fine example of Munch's exciting conducting and compelling interpretation. The sound is most fine.

A beaut of a performance and a fine recording

Why RCA never released this on the Living Stereo label is a mystery to me. It is a fine performance and a very good early stereo recording. Competition is fierce for performances of this work, but Munch has much to say and is very competitive, even today. He is attuned to the lyrical, pastoral qualities to be found in the symphony, but he moves things along briskly. In the process, he does not dawdle or rush while maintaining an absolute clarity throughout. The BSO is superb.
