MADSEN Electric Assist Kit

Amazing upgrade, totally worth it

We bought our Madsen 3 years ago without the e-assist kit. It's perfectly usable but can be challenging to pedal depending on cargo and distance. The e-assist kit changed all that! We got our local bike shop to install it for a resonable fee - they were initially skeptical but the installation video gave them confidence and is an awesome resource to understand how the install has to be done. Still, ask your local shop because some might be reluctant to install an aftermarket kit for you. The e-assist makes the Madsen feel lighter and makes pedaling effortless. Still, it can be adjusted to still provide some resistance if you're looking for a workout. Most of the time that's how I use it, at the lowest assist levels. But it's good to know the extra power is available if I get too tired. The added weight is still there and under no power, the bike does feel heavier to pedal, though I like that it *can* move under pedal power only, handy in case of dead battery or motor issues. I lowered the speed limiter to 24 km/h since out of the box it has a much higher limit and it felt a bit dangerous particularly when carrying kids. All in all it's a great upgrade that really increases our range and makes the Madsen even more suitable to replace a car for the vast majority of our needs, allowing us to use it more frequently and for more things. Perhaps my only regret is that I didn't splurge on the e-assist when I first got the bike :)

E bike extension

The e bike is amazing once installed. We have taken it out multiple times and our kids love it. Getting it installed was difficult and time intensive. There is a movie that goes through the installation, but there are special tools required that do not come in the kit. Mainly for the crank and the bottom bracket removal. I went to REI to buy a crank puller, but then I ended up taking it into a bike shop to remove the bottom bracket and get the gear shifting readjusted as they were off after installation.

It's got punch!

This is my second electric bike. Although I'm not a huge fan of the mechanics, it's a powerful engine and it's my fastest bike. It's fun!
