It's almost a "5" -
My starting point was an EBags mother lode backpack, which carried a ton, but was difficult to carry. I moved on to an Osprey Fairview 40. The Fairview felt great on my back, but the curvature of the harness system and the bag shape ate into the usable volume, so I returned it. Now, I was on the search for the perfect bag (aka the best bag for me). I was part of the Tortuga Kickstarter campaign, but bailed out when I was able to get the Fyro Levo 36L with hip belt. The Tortuga did not have a luggage passthrough, was 34L, and weighed the same as the Levo. Frankly, the Tortuga just wasn't sexy enough. So I settled on the Levo, and glad I did. Now onto the Levo review.
For background I am female, in my 60s, 5'5", 127 lbs. The biggest issue I have with the Levo is that the sternum strap needs to be able to adjust up just another inch (2.5 cms). The other issue is that when the bag is properly adjusted on me there is a lot of dangle on the shoulder straps and sternum straps. Besides this, it's a truly fabulous bag. I packed it out with no censoring, and weighed in at 17 lbs, felt great on my back - light and tight, I definitely needed the waist strap. I use packing cubes, and it was easy to organize and fit everything I needed. I don't miss lockable zippers or two water bottle compartments - things I never used. I carry only my phone for tech, so I use the laptop compartment for toiletries. I got these clear rectangular zip (https://a.co/d/0b1d4Hbv) around bags that fit perfectly - easy access for tsa, and protected. The large front compartment is gusseted, holding a lot, while not eating into the main compartment. The workmanship on the bag is clean and well done.
Final part of the review - the buying experience - The box the bag comes in is crisp and simple, no excessive packaging or literature. Follow-up emails to check in from Fyro. All in, quite classy. I am very happy with my new bag, except for the small issues of dangle and sternum strap fit, but given my size, and the fact that bags are designed for all sizes, those of us on the end of the range will see a few issue - that's the "It's almost a "5" ".
