Requires advanced settings on Android to pair. You have to turn of required named Bluetooth. This made setup untenable for people that don't understand BLE.
Otherwise it works. Just the app is outdated.

It's an excellent device but not quite as advertised. My device would not work properly with just batteries. Wi-Fi was quite low and varied in strength. It would drop out and disconnect in 10 to 20 minutes. I had a router that reported a strong signal and I still went and employed a WiFi extender to boost the strong signal. The PUC disconnected after 10 minutes. I set up an USB-C A/C connection and the Wifi instantly became stronger. It hasn't disconnected in a 24 hour period. It's working fine. I live in a dry climate but this setup is not ideal for many places. I am enjoying the identification of the native birds very much.
