Solved My Camera Power Problem!

I purchased a VIOFO A119M Pro 4K HDR MINI Dash Cam for my 2023 BMW i4 M50. I love this camera, but... I initially added a DONGAR tap into the rain sensor power supply in the base of my rear-view mirror to power the camera as recommended by several reviews and BMW threads. It worked, but in my car that power source is constantly on, even when the ignition is off. As a result, my VIOFO camera would never stop recording - the parking mode settings were disabled and non-functional with this power configuration. Plus this would be a battery-drain issue in most cars, (in the case of the i4 being an EV, the 12 volt battery is checked and recharges by the main drive batteries, so this was not really an issue). But for card capacity and just the sheer volume of unnecessary recordings I wanted this problem fixed. More reading and a call to VIOFO customer service (they were great and provided accurate info) confirmed I needed a special optional power tap and cable from VIOFO that is connected directly to the OBD terminal in my car. It was not terribly expensive, did not require any messing with my fuse box or terminals, and completely solved the problem of the non-functional parking mode and constant recording. It also has had zero impact on my car's electrical system, as it only pulls power while somehow signaling the camera as to whether the car is parked or running, and it does not utilize any other pins in the OBD plug. If you need to service the car using the OBD plug, simply unplug the camera power and then plug it back in when you're done. This was a far better option for me than messing with the fuses in a new vehicle. You probably want to check with VIOFO Customer Service as to the best power supply option for your particular car. And BTW - I'm leaving the now unused USB-C rain sensor power tap in place to power a future radar detector.

Perfekt for Toyota C-HR

In the Toyota C-HR, using a hardwire kit is difficult because the fuse box cover no longer fits once installed. The OBD power cable is therefore the perfect solution and works excellently.

Way Easier than Hardwiring With HK4 Kit. I tried setting up my A229 Plus using the HK4 kit and for the life of me couldn't find the right fuses to tap into, and came close to just using a usb port in my truck, and unplugging/plugging in when I was getting in and out of my truck. This OP100 solves that issue completely. Now my parking mode works without any extra action on my end, and I drive daily so I'm not worried about my battery getting drained, but it has a low voltage cutoff which would protect the battery if I'm away from my truck for too long. As simple as plug and play, and then tucking the wire in the trim. Absolutely recommend, and will be purchasing one of these kits again if I get a dashcam for another vehicle.
