Ha'Ogen Melon

Scrumptious and Very Sweet

This was our first year growing Ha'Ogen. When I picked it before it was fully ripe, it was good, but not great (I wasted a few trying to figure out when to pick them). But then I waited to pick up the next one until the skin was netting and turning golden all over. It slipped off the vine when I moved it. Yes, fully ripe!!! And then it was off the hook delicious. My neighbors love it too and want to grow it next year. This year was an experiment to see if we liked it first. I am in Las Cruces, NM so it was insanely hot and extreme UV index all summer, yet the plants survived beautifully. It seems I will have to buy some more seeds to share with neighbors next year. What does it taste like? A SUPERSWEET Honeydew melon is how my husband and neighbors describe it. I'm attaching photos so you can see how it should look when ripe. The photo of the melons on the vine are not yet ripe. They should be golden like the cut-up ones and slip off when you lift them up.
