A revenge film with no appetite for revenge. Vibenius shoots atrocity at the same unhurried remove he shoots the Swedish countryside, and Christina Lindberg — mute, expressionless, magnificent — gives one of the great withholding performances in genre cinema. The slow motion isn't spectacle; it's arithmetic. You are made to count. Fifty years of imitation haven't touched it.
