Triiodothyronine (T3) is a hormone produced by the thyroid gland that exists in the body as free T3 and as bound T3 (bound to protein). Free T3 is used mainly to help diagnose hyperthyroidism, when the thyroid produces too much hormone. Also known as FT3 and free triiodothyronine.
