Drunk reindeer???
This amusing RomCom fantasy read is about Tamara and Haden and is set in the freezing cold winter of Canada near Christmas. Tamara accidentally bumps into a drunk Rudolph (Santa's lead reindeer) which triggers off a set of events that breaches the two worlds (the human world and the magic world). Tamara and Haden know each other well as she used to date Haden's younger brother, Kade but after an epic and very public breakup in their small town, she is alone and living on a farm. She is an animal lover and is currently caring for her landlord's elderly horse. She returned to her hometown after a stint in the city where she has learnt to stand up for herself and not be a pushover. Haden, who is eight years older than Tamara, is a veterinarian and is perceived to be a bit of a playboy as he is very popular with the local county's ladies who are constantly making up pet emergencies to meet him after hours. He's rather tired of it all and he just wants to settle down with a hobby farm and a wife (he has crushed on Tamara for years). Haden is drawn into Tamara's complex mess and there is magic, a fairy godmother who charges for her services and a hilarious group of drunk reindeer. The reindeers' interactions with the humans and Hugo, the elf, were sometimes so funny that I received some strange looks from my family whilst reading their dialogue. Santa is summoned to the rescue but somehow makes the situation worse and and a very mean Mrs Claus comes to take some drastic action. This story was a lovely read as it was light-hearted and heartwarming. The two main characters were so likeable and endearing, I really liked both of them and they were such a fun pair and perfect for one another. The story, though far fetched, has magical elements that most readers can connect with. Haden was so protective and considerate towards Tamara - he was definitely swoon worthy. This book would make a fantastic holiday Hallmark movie and I could visualise all the action and scenes from how well this story was told. This is a clean read and it is an enjoyable story.
