I stained the wood before assembly by my son-in-law (who had already stained and assembled his planter). I did a light but thorough coat of the stain and it dried pretty quickly in our 100 degree temps. (My son-in-law stained his with a heavier coat and said it was still tacky the next day.). I tested mine by sprinkling a little water on it and it beaded right up. I added a row of pool noodles in the bottom to take up some space as I am only planting herbs. I also added a medium-sized Olla to help with watering. I love the height! I love the planter!

Just finished staining the boxes. Love the look! Will install them in the spring.

This product goes on really easily, but there is no way one order will do four planters.
