GP-1 WB Radio Is Unique In The Market Today

I have a collection of very small radios, and the number of AM & FM stations modern DSP chip enabled tiny radios can clearly receive is amazing, compared to the old "transistor radios" of similar size from decades ago. In particular, County Comm's GP-1 WB radio is unique in the "tiny radio" marketplace for its build quality with a heavy duty polycarbonate body, and the presence of an always-on red LED illuminated backlight shining across the analog tuning dial. The addition of the Weather-Band is also a rarely seen feature among these micro radios. I have always liked the analog tuning dial rather than a digital readout... maybe it's just nostalgia. There is something about that always-on red backlight making the analog dial glow, especially in a dark room, which I find very appealing. Being able to get 50 hours of radio and continuous backlight from a pair of AA batteries is great. I think these twenty dollar radios would make great Christmas presents as well. Many people do not have any battery operated radio in their home (as hard as that may be to believe), and this little radio is a perfect companion during a power failure after a storm, or even after a longer term power failure from A.I. getting out of control and taking down the power grid. I know it's not the prettiest radio in the light of day (mostly because it is built like a tank), but I assure you that at night, in a dark room, with that red backlight glowing... it becomes the prettiest little radio.

This is a very nice radio. I got the impression it would be more robust in construction, however it's built well enough for careful use. I always like to have something that receives NOAA stations for emergency weather reports. The sale I caught got the radio closer to the right price. I do have a problem with radios in general, being an amateur radio operator doesn't help. Ive been ordering from County Comm for years now, always good stuff.
