This was time consuming to make, but it is not too hard. I think I might like to make the ties from ribbon next time. The collar is small so I will use pretty light weight fabric next time too. The bonnet is cute and pretty easy. You are really making two items so it takes a while, plus the bonnet, but makes a sweet and pretty costume.

A Story comes to Life

The Country Girl sewing pattern was a wonderful choice! Beautifully crafted and excellent instructions made this project so enjoyable that I purchased the 18" pattern the next week. I have made both, and the fit is perfect for all the little Lauras and Marys from the Little House books that bring imaginations to life for all my young friends.

After 20 years waiting for the PERFECT outfit for my handmade porcelain 14” doll, I finally found this beautiful pattern at the Pixie Faire website. The finest details are expressed in clear, step by step instructions along with a bonus....the historical background. The littlest of details with the side dress pockets, with the slits in the apron for access to these dress pockets and the very cute gathered front apron pockets. Loved the tucks for the “growing” girl’s dress! Perhaps the pattern could be marked a bit more difficult than Easy, but that’s only how I feel.
