Tool hardness

The one and only time I used it, caused it to get a gouge in it like I tried to cut a nail with it or something. I don’t think it was hardened right. I was working on a clean piece of black walnut(no nails). It’s hardwood, but it shouldn’t fail that easily. Otherwise the tool, looks and feels nice.
