Clear Self Tanning Gel

1 Star – Very Disappointed

I bought the Clear Self Tanning Gel after seeing an advertisement showing someone getting a very deep, noticeable tan from this exact product. Unfortunately, my experience was nothing like what was advertised. I am very familiar with self tanning and properly prepared my skin beforehand by exfoliating, moisturizing dry areas, and applying the product evenly. I left it on for over 6 hours to give it plenty of time to develop, and I barely got any noticeable color at all. The biggest issue was actually my hands. The instructions on the bottle say to apply with your hands in circular motions and mention a mitt as optional, but they do not clearly warn that using your hands can cause significant staining. My hands ended up extremely stained, and they also had a very unpleasant self-tanner smell afterward. Ironically, my hands got far more color than the rest of my body. The product is also advertised as non-sticky, but I found it very sticky even after it had dried. Another frustrating issue is that the bottle itself does not clearly explain how long the product should be left on to develop. I contacted customer service because I was extremely disappointed and requested a refund. Instead, I was told they do not refund opened or used products and was given a store credit code that expires in 60 days. What made this even more frustrating is that I paid $37.18 for my order, yet the store credit they gave me was only $31.18, so they did not even credit me the full amount I originally paid. I was also given basic tanning instructions that I had already followed and was told to try one of their mousse products instead. That response was especially disappointing because I specifically chose the clear gel for its clear formula and skincare benefits. I do not want to spend additional money, plus shipping, on another product from the company after having such a poor experience with this one. If they genuinely wanted to resolve the issue by having me try a different formula, offering a replacement product would have made much more sense than giving me temporary store credit toward another purchase. Overall, the results did not come close to what I expected from the advertising, the application instructions were not clear enough, the product was sticky despite the claims, and the customer service resolution left me even more dissatisfied. I will not be purchasing from Bali Body again.

LOVE this self tanner and I have tried them all. The smell is very subtle. it absorbs quickly. The color is spot on and when they they say NO transfer, BELIEVE it! This will be my go to all year round.

It takes a second to get used to applying the product evenly, with it being clear and all…and I thought just putting it on one time would make me dark…anyway, after getting through the kinks, I LOVE this product and will probably never use another self tanner moving forward. It lasts for days, hasn’t transferred onto my clothes or bedding, and most importantly— it doesn’t turn you orange. Amazing product. Must try for those who haven’t.
