Oddly uncomfortable to use, damping leathers too quiet

I like the handles on these hammers. That's what drew me to them. But, I returned them because: 1) the leathers are too soft, resulting in a hammer that makes almost no sound. Turn them over and the sound was tinny. I don't have an explanation for that, but it was not pleasant. 2) They are very, very lightweight. I did not like the feel. 3) they telegraph the string hit back to the handle. I think that's the narrow, slender shaft and the wood. I chose to have a custom pair of hammers made for me, as my hands have arthritis and I need a wider handle for my fingers to work with, especially for those bounced-triplets ;-)
