German Magnum is my go-to bittering hop for any German style lager. It's smooth, clean bitterness fits in well with later flavour and aroma additions of German noble hops. If I can't get German Magnum, I will use Australian Topaz rather than the Polish Magnum.

Magnum Hops
I routinely use Magnum to give my beers a clean bitter backbone. There is very little taste or flavour imparted with Magnum so I always use a taste addition and an aroma addition of a classic German hop. I have used magnum with Splater, Hersbruker, Saaz and Mittelfruh. (Batch size 25l) Typically I use 10-15g of Magnum with 10 -15g of the other hops for the boil, then 10-15 g of the other at whirlpool (70-80 degrees c) (Flavour), and 10-15g as a tea hop at kegging( aroma) 50 degrees and straight in it goes. I have had excellent results. Spalter is particularly underrated as a classic German hop.

Magnum Hops - Bittering
Great bittering hop to use in long boil. Smooth bitterness allows for use in any volume. Used in a pale ale as an alternative to higher volumes of flavouring hops and it's neutral balanced flavour profile works well with the tropical/citrus notes of Idaho7 in the late boil. Definite staple in the hop shelf of the freezer.
