A very worthwhile comparison but . . . Feathers for me.

A great and affordable opportunity to try top-rated blades to see what works for you. There is no universal answer to this question: (1) your beard; (2) your water; (3) your razor; (4) your shaving soap/cream/gel; and (5) probably many other variables all influence this choice. For me, with a Merkur 34C, very soft St. Louis water, Ogllala Bay Rum Soap, and a mixed beard of tough white and gray hairs, and softer brown, blonde and red hairs (i'm complex, OK?) my personal preference in this set was: (1) Feather (2) Astra (3) Merkur. The Feathers were far and away the sharpest and longest lasting (5+ shaves). The Astras were very good, and I would have been totally satisfied, but for the existence of Feathers. The Astras lasted fewer shaves, began to pull sooner and were prone to razor burn at the corners of the mouth. The Merkurs were a complete disappointment. Dullest of the three with substantial pulling on my coarser hairs, definite mouth-corner razor burn even with a light tough, plus only lasting 2-3 shaves. Of course, your mileage may vary. Overall a fine sampler, and a cost-effective way to see if any of these are the right blades for you.
