My Japanese incense fits in the brass ball incense holder that comes with it and there is even enough room for another 2 millimeters in diameter so you don't have to worry about your incense not fitting, however, you should know that not all Japanese incense have the same shape or diameter. Some Japanese incense are square shaped and in a thicker style, but the common style of Japanese incense will fit with no problem.
