A Guitarist’s Dream, but a Vocalist’s Challenge
As a singer-guitarist, I was drawn to the Eventide H90 for its promise of handling both vocals and guitar simultaneously, offering a versatile solution for live performances. However, while the pedal excels in some areas, it falls short of expectations for dual-purpose use. Below, I’ll break down what impressed me and where it disappointed. What I Loved: The H90 delivers exceptional effect quality. The sounds are professional-grade, with lush reverbs, pristine delays, and creative modulations that elevate any performance. The build quality is equally impressive—sturdy, reliable, and designed to withstand the rigors of live gigs. For guitarists, this pedal is a powerhouse, offering a vast array of high-quality effects that inspire creativity. What Left Me Wanting: Despite its strengths, the H90 has significant limitations for my needs as a singer-guitarist: 1.Limited Dual-Input Functionality: The H90’s A and B effect instances cannot be used simultaneously for both vocals and guitar. You’re restricted to one instance for vocals and one for guitar, or both for a single source (either vocals or guitar). This severely limits its versatility for performers who want to process both instruments at once, which was a major selling point for me. 2.Restricted Effect Customization: Each effect comes with predefined parameters, which feels restrictive. I’d love the ability to create custom effects from scratch, with full access to all the pedal’s parameters. This would unlock far more creative potential and make the H90 more adaptable to unique performance needs. 3.No XLR Inputs/Outputs: The absence of XLR connections is a notable drawback for vocalists. Direct microphone input via XLR would streamline setup and improve compatibility with professional audio systems, especially for live performances. My Verdict: The Eventide H90 is a phenomenal pedal for guitarists, and I’d recommend it 100% for guitar-focused applications. Its effects are top-tier, and the build quality is outstanding. However, for vocalists or performers looking to use it for both vocals and guitar simultaneously, it falls short. The lack of true dual-input processing and XLR connectivity makes it less practical for live vocal-guitar performances. While it can produce excellent vocal effects for studio recordings or vocal-only live setups, it doesn’t fully deliver on the promise of seamless vocal-guitar integration. For now, I’ll need to invest significant time to tweak configurations that might work for my live setup, but I’m skeptical about its practicality for versatile live performances. If you’re primarily a guitarist, the H90 is a fantastic choice. For vocalists or dual-purpose performers, you might want to explore pedals specifically designed for vocal-guitar integration.

Everyone else is just competing for second place.
I've been an Eventide guy for a long time. I got the H90 because I play in an instrumental trio, and when it's just three instruments and no vocals, the guitar needs to be huge, and not in a phony or cliche' way. Bottom line is Eventide effects are the best. It's almost insulting to play anything else.
