Great book! It really goes into detail about all the inventors and their developments thru the early history of IC engines. I recommend it.

Great chronicle of the how and why the IC engine was developed.

Lyle Cummings writes a good history book on who, how and why of developments in the engineering of internal combustion engines. Starting with the inventors, avaiable fuel and technology, need for working power leading towards a more advanced designs.
