Linen Merriam Trousers

I made a modified version of the Merriam Trousers in White Linen. I wanted them to be slightly wider legged (not as swishy as Calder, not as straight as Merriam) and I wanted them to be elastic waisted. I thought the Merriam would make an elegant pair of summer trousers made this way. I did a Toile to finetune the fit, then proceeded with gorgeous Linen rayon cream fabric from Haberman fabrics in Clawson MI. I don't know what happened, but my pockets were gaping like crazy, the pants were too tight! The first thing I did was run to the fabric store hoping there would still be fabric on the bolt. There wasn't, but there was similar cream straight linen. So i bought it. Then I came back home to diagnose what was wrong. The part of my body I am sometimes self conscious about is my tummy, so I was sure that was what was wrong. I split the center front seam and center back seam and put the pants back on. Can you imagine my surprise when the center front stayed closed and the back seam opened up?! My gaping pockets were because of my bootie, not my tummy! Thankfully, Cashmerette makes a standard bum and a full bum, so I cut the full bum piece for my new pair of pants. Getting pants to fit right is still a challenge for me, but as Jenny has mentioned for herself, they do look better on me than RTW pants! I think I will make another pair this way to refine the fit, then venture on to the beautiful details this trouser pattern has. I especially appreciate the flexible but tailored waistband. The instructions are clear and easy to understand and the finished pants look really nice. This pattern is on the way to becoming a tried and true pant for me.

Great pattern

I love the flex waistband. The instructions were easy to follow. I also made these in ponte with the standard waistband. After fitting the pants in a stable woven I made the ponte version one size down and they worked out perfectly.

Beautifully Crafted Pattern

Cashmerette patterns are very beautifully crafted, with notches and seams that match perfectly. The trousers came together easily. This is the best fitting waistband I have ever had, (and it wasn't even the flex version!). I am a Cashmerette fan!
