This dress can be worn may ways. Dressed up or down. The strings can be tightened or loose. I am short waisted and the pictures show both cinched and loose. It does have a built in slip, but I would still add one. I think it is a bit see through if the light is coming from behind. It is heavy in weight, but it doesn't feel like it would be hot.
