The CLOCKstep: MULTI has made me a MIDI believer
For quite some time now, DAW’s like Ableton Live and Studio One have been able to create a master tempo that follows raw, unquantized drum performances, giving us the potential of creating electronic music with a real and live human feel. However, getting hardware instruments to jam along with a DAW that’s outputting a constantly fluctuating tempo via USB MIDI Clock has been a nightmare; the constant drifting, jitter, and out of sync feel has left me totally discouraged. Replacing MIDI clock with CV analog plugins has been the only reliable solution for me, although it is quite limiting, since only a niche selection of standalone electronic instruments available today accept analog sync, and often requires a DC-coupled audio interface to even work. Then I found the CLOCKstep, which has been a solution in every facility. Sending analog sync to the CLOCKstep is easy and can be done with any interface, and the MIDI clock that is outputted is accurate and rock solid, enabling my synths and sequencers to jam tightly with my DAW. This thing is feature packed and even has realtime beat tracking built-in, so now live performance potential is through the roof. I highly recommend this device!

cool tool
The device works reliably so far. However, I haven't yet thoroughly tested the "Follow Beat / Audio" function with my drumkit. The controls are a bit cryptic. Ideally, native software control would be nice. (Mac OS, Sequoia 15.7.3 / Mac Mini M1 / Adobe Audition 2025) Thanks and best regards from Germany
