Specially good for the city

I'm city-bound without a motor vehicle, and am learning to recognize constellations, and to navigate to dimmer stars and doubles, by using the few bright stars visible; an interesting and pleasant challenge. The 40mm Plossl reveals the dimmer stars in a still quite general view (about a 2° FOV on a 70mm x 900mm scope), giving me a better sense of the constellation areas and boundaries, and it speeds up my navigation. It is quite hefty and I decided to upgrade my dovetail plate to a longer one so I could compensate for this eyepiece and for other gear I'm slowly acquiring. I'm glad I got the 40mm; it gives crisp views of our distant neighbors, and is good for trolling the sky for shiny things in odd places.

The views in this eyepiece are bright and clear. It is an excellent wider field eyepiece that is very helpful in searching for specific objects or simply exploring the night sky. The price is very reasonable. Recommended!
