Please give us XL
I've been waiting for these LTT socks for quite a while, I've been needing to replace all my socks and the pending LTT socks seemed like the ideal option. Unfortunately they didn't launch quite soon enough, and I ended up with a few pairs of Darn Tough socks first. As such I'm going to be doing a lot of comparison between these socks and the Darn Tough Standard Light Cushion Crew socks in XL.
As soon as I saw these socks listed on the site, I ordered a pair in each color. It wasn't until watching WAN later that day that mention of sizing came up, and I returned to the site to check the size chart. Frustratingly, LTT did not launch these socks with a full range of sizes, I ordered the Large size because it was the biggest option assuming that would cover the top of the range of shoe sizes. But alas, that's not the case. Darn Tough has an XL which is what I wear, and LTT needs an XL also. For reference my shoes are size 14.
So when my Forever Socks arrived, I was apprehensive, but I tried them on. Interestingly, I found these socks to have quite a bit more stretch than the Darn Tough socks. The Large socks *do* fit onto my feet, while the fully wool Darn Tough socks I tried in Large did not. Unfortunately you can tell the sizing isn't quite right, the toe box in particular doesn't fit right and wants to bunch up a bit. I can't say if they would be better in the correct size, I suspect they would be but I kind of doubt they would be a perfect fit for my toes even in the right size. The difference in length between my big toe and little toe is so significant that my little toe is basically never inside the toe box of any sock.
Some people will complain that the Forever Sock isn't 100% wool, however I think the choice works. Long term durability will maybe tell a different tale, but for now the benefits seem worth it. The socks are more stretchy as I mentioned, but they also pill way less. All my Darn Tough socks *immediately* had pilling after the first wash, and they liked to get a lot of lint and even pet hair stuck to them in a way that didn't come off in the wash. Like okay, technically it's *clean* cat hair on my socks, but it's still cat hair that for some reason stayed on my sock through washing. The Forever Socks did not have that problem. Weirdly I did find that after a few washes the socks actually got less stretchy? They're still more stretch than Darn Tough but they're definitely stiffer than they started.
In terms of comfort, the socks feel quite nice. They are a little thicker than the Darn Tough ones, but not too much so (at least not when stretched over my feet...). The toe box is the main issue for comfort, but I can't be sure it's not just the sizing problem.
And that brings us to the main complaint I have: Why oh why did LTT launch this product without a full size range? I think that was a pretty critical blunder, I don't think I'm the only person that ordered the wrong size because they wanted to be quick on the draw and get socks before they sold out, selected the largest option because surely that would be right, only to learn later that actually no they are not. So far I've only opened on of my pairs. I've been hemming and hawing over returning the other two pair, it's just kind of a hassle.
