Replaced my old cotton socks that were bulky and only lasted a year with a pair of Darn Tough merino wool mid-calf socks and will never look back. They fit perfectly, feel great and last for days before washing as they don't retain foot odor. I chose a large based on the sizing chart which was an ideal size for me. Will buy a few more then recycle the cotton socks as cleaning rags.
