Practical key wallet with premium look
After a lengthy hunt for a minimalist key holder that works well while looking good, I opted for this SageBrown leather key wallet in both black and brown.
Very satisfied with my choices. There are even slicker options out there, but they rely on all keys being of a fairly standard length and, crucially, width. Instead, numerous keys I carry, including my house and bicycle keys, sport plastic bows of very variable size and thickness. This renders many minimalist designs useless, or at best capable of holding only 3 or 4 keys.
Ths SageBrown wallet is larger and does not require keys to lie in line, thus easily swallowing various shapes and sizes. The spring clip opening is simple and ingenious. It can be operated with one hand while standing at doors with luggage, umbrella etc in the other. (Small flaw: the spring clips on my black wallet flex in perfect synchrony, but one of them on the brown wallet is too rigid, requiring some force to open both sides at once.)
The wallet then holds the keys securely, unlike some holders held together by screws that can come loose, or with mini keyracks of sometimes low-quality rings that allow keys to work their way free.
The leather has a premium look and colour to match my brown and black card/cash wallets, There is a visible logo, which I personally would prefer to be hidden inside, but as it is small, debossed and uncoloured, it's fairly discreet.
The wallet is small enough to slip into any pocket (other than a token coin pocket) in trousers, jackets or EDC bags. Unlike many of the popular "Swiss penknife"-type designs, the keys are then securely prevented from poking out and damaging the linings of those pockets. However, they can move around within the wallet and make a noise, especially if you're carrying only one or two at a time. If that bothers you, consider padding the wallet with, eg, a small cleaning cloth.
Recommended for the low-key (ha!) minimalist about town.
