I gave this as a confirmation gift to a young man converting to Catholicism. His chosen saint was St. Joseph do this rosary was perfect for him. Beautifully made and masculine. Great gift for any Catholic man.

Ebony Rosaries Make the Best Winter Rosaries!

Over the past year I have collected several rosaries, many from The Catholic Woodworker and some from other rosary makers. Among the wooden, acrylic and metal rosaries I've been praying with, I've discovered this winter that ones made with ebony beads seem to be warmer to the hands–even more so than other kinds of wood. Not possessing any scientific or woodworking expertise myself, I can only hazard to guess it's because of their black color and that black retains warmth better. At any rate, I have two ebony rosaries—this St Joseph the Worker one and a custom one I had made last year and love them both. What moved me to get this particular rosary was the St Joseph the Worker medal—it has both a nice amount of girth and especially great detail of St Joseph, his tools and the wood he is working with. He has the facial features of a middle aged man like St Joseph could have been when he was raising Jesus. The detail is just exquisite. Finally, I love the pardon crucifix that this rosary has—like the medal, it has a perfect amount of girth to it, artistic detail in Jesus' body on the cross, and the embossed lettering on the reverse side is clear and even from top to bottom, left to right. The reason I mention this is that I have another pardon crucifix from a different rosary maker and it is disappointingly thin, and the embossed lettering on the back is not nearly as raised or defined. The Catholic Woodworker has the best pardon crucifix crosses—exceptional and top notch. Cannot recommend them highly enough. The ONLY reason I give this rosary four stars instead of five is that it would be great if the Hail Mary beads were a bit larger, like 10mm instead of 8, though I realize this might add to the cost. This is merely a personal preference, and, to be fair, there is roomy spacing in between the beads that makes them just as easy to pray with as larger beads. A beautiful rosary from start to finish.
