Great (Overpriced) Accessory
I love it. I’ve been a big e-reader since Kindle Gen 2. I’ve had several Kindles over the year, and I’ve also read on various phones and tablets along the way.
As the years go by, I find myself not wanting to have a separate reading device, especially as I often want to look up things as I read or ask ChatGPT about what I’m reading or whatever. But my iPad is a bit big for reading comfort, and I just haven’t liked using the phone for long reading sessions either.
Which brings me to this thing. I like bezels. I want a place to hold my tablets especially, but even on the phone I’ve always wished that I could somehow have a bezel extending off the phone. Phones now have big enough screens to feel like a decent reading device if I could just hold it how I wanted.
Somehow Astropad knew that some people would like this as a solution, and I’m kind of excited about it. I love holding it. The bezels are perfect, I really like how the phone comes forward a bit (instead of being flush with the bezels), and the soft back is very pleasant in the hand.
I’m only giving 4 out of 5 stars because $50 is a lot for what the device is. If it had page turn buttons, then I might say 50 bucks feels like the right price. But hey, I paid it, and I’m glad I have it, so I can’t complain too much. I mean, what isn’t overpriced in the world of electronics? Again, though, page buttons would make me feel like it’s not overpriced.
