My husband and I made the New Year's Resolution to play more games, specifically card and board games. Immediately we scoured Reddit boards and game awards websites to identify a VERY large quantity of games that we thought we'd like, and we bought them all. Gotta be honest, some of these games were a little eye-watering in price, but the quality seems to be there to justify the cost. After we'd been playing Ticket to Ride every evening for about a week, we discovered that we were already causing wear here and there. Maybe we're heavy handed or maybe that's just to be expected, but I looked out our stack of newly purchased, EXPENSIVE treasures and thought… uh oh. So began an exhaustive (and I mean EXHAUSTIVE) search for card sleeves to protect our games and prolong their life. The one requirement I wasn't willing to budge on was that I didn't want the sleeve to downgrade the game playing experience. Part of the point of board and card games is that they're tactile and you're holding cards and moving pieces and everything. So a chief consideration was that the sleeves needed to feel good, at least as good or nearly as good as the unsleeved cards themselves. After a LOT (I'm talking hours and hours) of research, we decided to purchase Ryker sleeves. Very long story short: WE ARE SO HAPPY WITH THESE SLEEVES!! They feel great in the hand, you get a few extras with every game kit, the front is crystal clear and the back is textured to help you hold the cards (which feels a lot like the naked card itself). I had a moment of concern with the Eldritch Horror cards, because there is a lot of itty bitty text, and some cards have writing on the front AND the back -- would the texture obscure the writing or make it hard to read? I'm happy to report the text on the textured side is still easy to read! You CAN see a minor amount of distortion on that side, but honestly that's being majorly nit-picky for what is otherwise pretty much a PERFECT sleeve solution. We love these things, like LOVE them. We get to play our games and focus on having fun, instead of focusing on treating the cards like they're made of fine, fragile crystal.
