Good but not great

Had high hopes for the spiral tankers after making a few prior purchases from Roka - not up to their usual standard The Good - amazing details from piping to walkways, etc The Not So Good - spiral welds are very pronounced, decals don't lay correctly over welds, car is far too light and will streamline if not at end of train Verdict - (mostly) lovely to look at but some flaws.

Roka spiral tank cars!!!!

The Roka spiral tank cars are very well done. They look fantastic running on my layout and really stand out visually. I’ve added more to the fleet and now have 8 of them total—definitely a great addition.

My Review

First and foremost, the detail is incredible, and the model looks very accurate to the prototype. I have zero complaints in that department. However, from the factory, this car is severely underweight. Out of the box, it was about 3 ounces. This is about 2 ounces under the NMRA standard for a car of this size. With a tank car with this level of detail, it was very, very difficult to open this car up and add more weight. I personally managed to, however I'm sure many other modelers would have trouble doing so. I would highly recommend adding more weight to this model, if you guys choose to do a new run.
