The Esterbrook Estie SD Oversized in Palladium Blue Nouveau is absolutely beautiful in person. The finish has a rich, dimensional quality that feels elegant without being overly flashy, and the oversized body is extremely comfortable for longer writing sessions. I paired mine with the Techo nib, which is my first and only Techo nib to date, and I have been genuinely impressed. The writing experience is precise, controlled, and pleasantly tactile. The feedback is very deliberate without feeling scratchy, which gives the nib a refined and satisfying feel on paper. Overall, this is a gorgeous pen with excellent presence, comfortable ergonomics, and a nib that feels distinctive enough to make the writing experience memorable. I am very happy to have this one in my collection. -TheBotanicalPen

The pen is beautiful and is a great addition to my collection. I have four other Esties and they are all wonderful everyday writers. Unfortunately the Techo nib on this pen was a little scratchy and I had to smooth it a little to suit my writing style. It is a smooth, wet writer now but it feels more like a standard medium nib.

I’ve been writing with stub nibs for a few years and find the 1.1mm can be a tad wide and forces me to write larger than I want. The Journaler custom nib solves this problem, though I do miss some of the more dramatic line variation. The buttery smoothness of the #6 Jowo makes up for it, however. The pen itself is gorgeous in the Nouveau Blue and I find myself looking at it even when I’m not using it. The blue acrylic resin with the seams of brown gives it an almost granite-like appearance that combined with the translucence is frankly mesmerizing. It’s as if the pen has an inner light. A friend remarked that it’s my Harry Potter wand and I had to correct him. The wands in Harry Potter are sticks of wood and the Estie is much more something I imagine Elrond or Gandalf would use (see photo). The resin also imparts a tactile sensation of quality. Hard to describe but the pen just feels good in the hand. Overall I’m very happy with the Estie and I may have to start a collection.
