Should Be On Every Registry
This meal package should be on everyone mom’s registry. As a mom of three, this was a life saver. Delicious food, well packaged and easy to reheat. I ordered one Hungry Mama Package and ordered a second box of 18 meals that I customized. Only four stars because the box only lasted me two weeks. I was the only one eating the food and a number meals I had during the two weeks weren’t from the box. Nevertheless, even lasting only two weeks, it’s still a great deal for such high quality food, which is why I ordered a second box and would consider ordering a third!

Beautiful concept, but doesn’t match the price
I really wanted to love this. The concept is amazing. Warm, Ayurvedic-style meals for postpartum is exactly what moms need, and I truly appreciate the intention and quality behind it. That said, for $495, it just didn’t feel worth it to me. The meals leaned more carb-heavy and not as protein-focused, so they weren’t as filling as I needed. Recently, their lactation brownies were removed from the package as well, which I felt like should be included plus more. The meals were fine, but I didn’t find myself looking forward to them. Some of them were pretty watery after thawing, which affected the texture. I also tried a few recipes from their cookbook at home and honestly liked those better. To me, the meal package would feel more complete if there were things like lactation snacks or more variety included, maybe some protein sides. Something that makes it feel a little more supportive and worth the investment. I really respect what they’re doing and wanted to feel better about it, but based on my experience I wouldn’t repurchase.

Best postpartum recovery support!
I ordered this package shortly before giving birth for the third time. My only regret is that I didn’t have these meals for my first two postpartum recoveries! It has been amazing having nourishing meals that follow the “First Forty Days” philosophy and require so little time and effort to prepare. I’m currently 4 weeks postpartum, and I feel that have regained core and pelvic floor strength so much more quickly this time around. I struggled with very symptomatic prolapse after my second birth, and was worried about having a similar experience this time. But my body has felt so much better during this recovery so far, and I’m certain that the high quality nutrients like collagen and organ meat in these meals have played a part in that. Not to mention that they help you stay hydrated, and are very easy to digest! Breastfeeding is also going great. My baby is gaining weight quickly, and I’m so thankful for nutrient rich meals to give my body what it needs so it can keep nourishing him. I also feel like my hormones are better balanced than in previous recoveries. There are still some emotional swings, but not nearly the level of postpartum anxiety and depression that I’ve experienced in the past. It’s just been a great recovery overall! And did I mention the meals taste delicious? I personally like to add a little salt to bring out the flavor, but otherwise they are great as is. If you have a big appetite, I do recommend having some meat on hand to add in to a couple of the soups to make them a little heartier and higher protein (we used deer burger.) My only suggestions to the company for improvement are to label a little more clearly which meals are intended as breakfast and which are intended for lunch/dinner. We figured it out, but if you’re new to this style of eating and aren’t sure what a “congee” or “kitchari” is, it might be nice in the foggy postpartum days to have serving suggestions easily accessible! I was also a little sad that the Hungry Mama package didn’t include pancakes, even though they’re shown in the product image. Consumers should also be aware that you have to watch for little bone and cartilage fragments in a couple of the soups (I think it was the chicken congee I noticed this in.) It didn’t really bother me and contributed to the “home cooked” feel of the meals, but it could be a choking hazard if you’re sharing food with very young family members. Overall, I highly recommend these meals to any postpartum Mama. They make it so easy to take good care of yourself so you can recover well and focus on taking care of your baby. I liked the products so much that I ordered a second box so I could keep using them as my primary meals for my whole first forty days of recovery. I also LOVE that they make so many of their recipes available for free. I’m definitely looking forward to continuing to cook some of these meals on my own. Thank you for what you do, Restorative Roots!
