It works!
Right after I got this, I hooked it up to the 97L. It screws onto the mic jack and uses power from the unit itself. I created an AI voice announcing the repeater, and there is a special mp3 format it needs, so I converted over to that. My only challenge was finding a micro-USB "data" cable, as most of them only charge. After trial and error I was able to place the file onto the unit, I used my Mac with Parallels installed Windows. The default states of the repeater ID were fine for me. Basically it was set for "on demand", not repeating forever at a fixed time interval (10 or 15 mins). So what this means, lets say you have your interval set to 15 mins, then nobody transmits for a while, then as soon as you do that first key-up, the ID starts playing out, and then it plays 15 minutes later. The only way it will play again is if someone keys up after the last ID. So you get used to it, and I don't mind this mode. The main reason I like it, is the initial key-up. You can drive far away and then key-up, and assuming nobody has used your repeater in a while (15 mins) then the ID play out and you can assess the audio quality of the repeater out in the field just on that simple key-up.
